Use Emojis in Discord Profile

How to Use Custom Emojis in Your Personal Profile on Discord

Currently, Discord does not allow users to use custom emojis in their personal profiles (i.e., status, bio, or nickname) unless they are part of a server where those emojis are available or they have Discord Nitro. Below are the steps to use custom emojis from servers and through Nitro in your personal profile:

How to Use Custom Emojis in Your Personal Profile on Discord

Prerequisites:

  • You need to be a member of a server where the custom emojis are uploaded.

  • You must have Discord Nitro to use custom emojis across all servers and in your profile.

Step 1: Joining a Server with Custom Emojis

  1. Join a Server: To use a specific server’s custom emojis, you need to be a member of that server.

  2. Access Emojis: Once you're in the server, you can use the custom emojis in that server’s chat or in your personal profile (with Nitro).

Step 2: Adding Custom Emojis to Your Status (for Nitro Users)

If you have Discord Nitro, you can use custom emojis in your profile, status, and across different servers. Here's how:

  1. Go to User Settings:

    • Click on the gear icon next to your username at the bottom-left corner of Discord to open User Settings.

  2. Set a Custom Status:

    • In the settings menu, scroll down and select Set Status under the "User Settings" section.

    • Click on Set a custom status.

  3. Enter Your Status:

    • In the custom status field, you can type any text.

    • To use a custom emoji:

      • Type : followed by the emoji name (e.g., :party_parrot:). This will allow you to add custom emojis from any server you are in.

      • If you have Nitro, you’ll be able to use emojis from servers outside the current one.

    • Alternatively, click the emoji icon on the right side of the text box to select an emoji from your available server emojis.

  4. Save Your Status:

    • Once you’ve added your desired custom emoji, click Save to apply the status.

Step 3: Using Custom Emojis in Your Nickname (for Nitro Users)

If you have Discord Nitro, you can also use custom emojis in your nickname on different servers:

  1. Go to the Server where you want to change your nickname.

  2. Open Server Settings:

    • Click the server name at the top left of the screen.

    • Choose Edit Server Profile from the drop-down menu (if you have Nitro) or Change Nickname (if the server allows it).

  3. Edit Your Nickname:

    • In the nickname field, type your new nickname.

    • To use a custom emoji, type : followed by the emoji name (e.g., :cat_emoji:).

    • Nitro users can use custom emojis from any server they are part of.

  4. Save your changes.

Step 4: Using Custom Emojis in Messages

Even if you can't use custom emojis in your profile without Nitro, you can still use them in messages within servers where the emojis are hosted:

  1. Type a Message:

    • Open a text channel in a server that has custom emojis.

    • In the message field, type : followed by the name of the emoji (e.g., :star_emoji:) or click the emoji icon and select from the custom emoji list.

  2. Send the Message:

    • Once selected, the custom emoji will appear in your message. Only users in that server will be able to see and use the emoji unless they also have Nitro.

  • Non-Nitro Users: You can use custom emojis only in the server where they are uploaded. You cannot use them in your profile or across servers.

  • Nitro Users: You can use any custom emoji from any server you're part of across all servers, in your status, nickname, and DMs.

This way, with Discord Nitro, you can showcase custom emojis in your profile and anywhere on Discord!
